I have read through all the answerer's so far. I agree with most. I am proud to be an American. As of late I see some Americans that I'm not proud of. The news media and some of the far left. Some of the tactics that are being used by the politicians. I'm sorry to say that certain Democrats would slit America throat to get their foot in the White House. I will be glad when the election is over. I have voted early. As of October 24 we were able to start voting. All people throughout the world should have peace and prosperity so they can be proud of their country. I'm sure there are a lot of country's that people are proud to live in. It's a beautiful world with so many places of beauty.

I am not an American, I have not been to America and I only know America from News, stories and movies. I just want to lay out The Democracy and Liberalism

What is Democracy? In wikipedia Democracy literally "rule by the people". From the Greek δῆμος demos, "people," and κράτος kratos, "rule".

What is Liberal? Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights. A society characterized by:
1. Freedom of thought for individuals
2. Limitations on power, especially of government and religion
3. The rule of law
4. Free public education
5. The free exchange of ideas
6. A market economy that supports relatively free private enterprise
7. A transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected.

All of it has to be answered only by American, but in my opinion, Who Ever You Are, We Should All Be Committed To A Better And Kinder World For The Living Soul Of The World

This is a mute question, completely irrelevant.

The truth is that most countries (especially those in the civilized world) sooner or later follow the footsteps that were taken by America or American society. Not necessarily willingly or knowingly, and maybe they do it 30 or 50 years later, but most do just the same.

Very sad to see all the negative answers to this question. Only in America can you be born in poverty, and end up a millionaire. Only in America can you speak out against the ones who rule, and not be shot for it. Only in America can you migrate here from some God forsaken third world country and drain our social services dry. Only in America can you live as an illegal immigrant and get away with it. Only in America can you get an education for your child, and know it's the best there is. America not the greatest country in the world? There is a reason why immigration is out of control! Their not fighting to get out, are they???

YES America is the greatest country in the world in facing terrorist threats. U should look at countries such as Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Russia, Canada and some of the Asian countries whereby there are no threats of terrorist attacks and also where the crime rates are very very low compared to US. U live not knowing who or when you'll be attacked next.

Well I don't really like how everyone praises America as "the greatest nation on God's green earth"...it sounds like we have a superiority complex..

but I have to admit, being an American is pretty nice compared to being someone in, for example, a third world country...just so much freedom, being able to be who you are...:)

I certainly believe this is the most previleged country in the world. And Great yes. But greatest in the world is a hard statement to make. I haven't been everywhere to verify that statement. How do you know that Norway or Mongolia or maybe Sierra Leone isn't the greatest? Personally I believe America had a humble beginning and thats what made it great. I think we should return to simple humble hard working America. leave the "we are the greatest by default" mentality.

Greatest in the world at what?

Greatest at telling every other country that America is greatest? Yep, I agree.

Addendum: It would appear that anyone with a differing opinion is getting a "bad answer rating". Not that I mind, but it shows the immaturity of the questioner and those with similar views :-D

I think the only people who are deluded to think that America is the "greatest country" in the world are Americans, esp those who have never been outside their own countries borders. The rest of us truly know better :)
