What has caused the recent reinvigoration of religion in politics? By recent, I guess I mean beginning with Bush's terms. Is it a reaction against perceived immorality in society? Is it a reaction against the growth of Islam? Is it the development of science as a threat to religion?

I'm not trying to start a fight; I'm simply wondering what brought religion back into politics with such vigor.

I feel strongly about this. What you said is the plain truth...RELIGION HAS ENTERED POLITICS. Separation of Church and State assures us freedom of religion...that includes ALL religions, not just conservative Christians.
Also, many liberals are Christian and the Republicans are trying to claim that only a conservative could be a "real" Christian. They are trying to hijack Christianity and patriotism all to themselves.
It's just another way to get votes.
Religion belongs in the hearts of mankind, not in politics or in war.
Thanks for bringing up a valuable point.

You have tried to ask a philisophical question, without understanding the nature of the subjects in reference. Religion is the key influence behind politics, always has been! Apologies but the wording of your question is utterly simplistic! If you want to debate religion and politics, read the bible and the newspaper then perhaps ask a real question.
and please read the US constitution, it's riddled with biblical references and undertones.
"Re-entered" what the hell is that!
(get the irony!)

30 years of the ACLU trampling the collective rights of most Americans.

They sent us running to private schools, couldn't shut those down, but they tried, and we got educated. We found out about those civil rights and decided to fight for them.

It's not inclusion of religion into politics, my friend. It is the Constitution of the USA.

boy i get sick and tired of people screaming about the separation of church and state and that bush is not separating them. religion is back because the libs and the aclu are trying to take religion away from us and we are ready to fight to get it back.

the fact that democrats/liberals are constantly whining that there has always been a separation of church and state in america is misleading: the FACT is, u.s. simply has no official state religion. thats it! period! there is no state religion, so get over it you godless libs!!
