I have a 10 month old and we are not ready for another baby just yet. I have had some bad experiences with birth controls in the past, especially nausea. (I have been on all kinds of pills, Ortho Evra (the patch), Depo (horrible experience!), etc.).

I am just wanting to hear from real women (not just testamonials in magazines) who have used this birth control. What (if any) physical changes did you experience while using this and would you recommend it? (weight gain? mood swings? etc?)

Thanks :)

That is BULL the Mirena does not contain the same as the depo

I like a horrible experience with depo my hair fell out I gained 50 pounds I was put on antidepressants for the sever mood swings. (was on it 9 months)

Patch heavy flow and mood swings wasn't on it long enough to see an increase in weight ( 2 months)

Pills had minor mood swings and nausea and weight gain

Mirena now 3 years and honest to god the only side effect I have is an absence of period. I go thru a normal cycle with discharge food cravings etc and then I never get a period and my cycle restarts. At 1st I did spot for 3 months esp after intercourse but I highly recommended it you are 25+ or have had at least 1 child and in a monogamous relationship

Lunell the monthly shot was recalled in the US after many women became pregnant off of it

Mirena has a failure rate of 0.1% versus tubal ligation 0.5%

When I had mine put in I cramped pretty bad for a few weeks, and then it went away. Now I still have a menstral-like feeling cycle, I still get pms (not as intense) and cramp but no bleeding. Felt pretty down for the first three months, not sure if it was the IUD but have since felt better. I would say the first three months is tough on your system but after that it's the most convenient BC I've used. I was on the pill but didn't take it right all the time and was worried about getting pregnant, I also had Crazy PMS so my doc recommended stopping my period. I tried the depo shot for six months, absolutely no weight loss, or mood swings, but my period wouldn't regulate, so I got the IUD.

My advice is to listen to your doctor, not your mom or sister of friend from work or whatever, a lot of people told me things they believed like they were actual fact (stopping your period is unhealthy, IUDs effect conception rates later etc.) when I talked to my doc he dispelled any worries I had and I've had my IUD for almost a year now- super happy with it.

NO. Marena has the same hormone as Depo Provera. Get the Copper T IUD. It is good for 10 years. Or less if you want it. Before it is inserted, take Ibuprofen 1 half hour before to ease cramping. Side effects can be irregular bleeding or spotting, but these occurances will clear up. Do not get the Marena. You'd be just as well off getting that Depo shot. It's the same. Copper T is NOT hormonal, so your body gets to stay natural. Some women can expel and IUD, but I don't think that this is too common. I got the Copper T because I had a terrible experience with the Depo shot too. No more hormones for me. The IUD is also reversable and highly effective

No weight gain no mood swings. I was able to plan my children around the IUD.

I feel that the IUD is a fantastic method of birth control.

The only problem that I did experience with it was some mild cramping and some light spotting.

Like you I had no success with the pill. I got the IUD. When I was ready to have my first child I had it taken out, I was pregnant by the next month and the same happened with my second child.

The IUD is an excellent form of birth control and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Ok depo, totally messed me up for yrs. after I stopped using it. And the IUD messed my sister up.... shes had it for yrs and hasn't had a period, it has also made her a lil on the crazy side. I liked the LUNAIL (don't know the proper spelling), its just like the pill but in liquid form..... it perfect for those like us!!! GL and birth control sucks for your bodies!!! IUDs give you a higher risk of infection.
