Very tight and shapely around the waist - but damned uncomfortable, and not designed for freedom of movement, whether male or female. Maybe Google clothing, 19thC; fashion 1890, or something like that. Good luck

I saw some wonderful examples in the Simplicity pattern book at the fabric shop - it was a special edition book for Halloween, but toward the back, there were a number of pages devoted to accurate historical fashions, for men and women, researched by a fashion historian.

I suggest you go to www.simplicity.com and click on Costumes, then Adult, then select from Civil War, Victorian, or Historical.

Hope this helps!

Lots of black. It was the end of the Victorian Era, and after Queen Victoria's husband died, all she wore was black. She set the style during that time. They had high collars and they still wore corsets.
