The Tell-Tale Heart is a short story and it’s very short. Have you read it?

In a nutshell, there is an insane man who murders his landlord because the old man has a really ugly eye that the insane man thinks is "watching" him. He kills him, and then buries him under the floorboards of his apartment. Just then, the cops show up, because a scream was heard. The insane man, who thinks he did such a great job cleaning up and burying the body, invites them in and sits to talk with them. Then he starts to hear the sound of the dead man's heart beating. It gets louder and louder, and the insane man is convinced that the cops are going to hear it. They don't seem to hear it, and he wonders if they're just PRETENDING not to hear it, to freak him out. Finally he loses it and screams out that he admits to killing the man.
***This is SUCH an awesome, freaky story. You really should read it. Or better yet, listen to it on tape.***
