In the segment about the woman who was being beaten by her husband, someone had videotaped one of the beatings, I think her son. I wasn't able to give my full attention to the program, and I was very confused as to how the husband allowed himself to be taped --the boy seemed to be in the same room and even following the parents around the room and zoom in on the mother!
Did the husband actually want it to be recorded?!
Can somebody clear this up for me?

Yes the wife asked the husband if he wanted lunch, he got mad, started going off on her and had the oldest son to video tape what was going on. She said that he had the kids on his side, that they were brainwashed by him. You could hear the son behind the camera comment to his mom saying that she brought the beating on herself, it was her own fault. There was a point were the son turned the camera away for about 3 minutes, i guess because it got too brutal. Her boss at work started noticing the bruises and the way she had to talk to her husband on the phone by calling him "master" and started taking notes. When the woman was ready, the went to the police. She was at the police station when she called her husband and he had the nerve to tell the police officers that his wife and kids were his property and he would do what he wanted to them and they needed to be returned to him. Anyway, they went to court and the judge noticed how cocky he was and decided to sentence him to 36 years in prison.

The lead in would suggest that the Father actually ordered the son to "video tape the whole scene."
I didn't see the program but did see a clip and an interview at abcnews.go.com/2020.
I would have to guess that he might want to use it to show her that he wasn't really "beating" her and therefore not abusing her. He may have thought he could use the video to show his wife that it was, indeed, she who is the problem.

The father asked his son to videotape it for him. He didn't realize that it would land him in prison which is where he is at. This woman is still recovering from the physical/verbal abuse suffered by her husband and her children is also fine.

yes, the husband had the son video him beating her. i think they said something about him wanting the kids to see how stupid their mom was. i could be wrong though. my boyfriend said he didn't remember them giving a reason.

According to 20/20 and the wife, she went to ask him if he wanted dinner and he got upset.
