If you are into Science Fiction or Fantasy then try the Baen Books free library ... it's brilliant & the books can also be downloaded in a variety of formats.
There's also the Gutenberg Project which has over 19,000 free books.

Free it's not. That's for liberated birds. But if you search the net you'll find book readings such as the Gutenberg list which you can download without charge, or free of charge, or without payment, and various other old-fashioned ways. Sorry, but not sorry. As a cranky old ex-editor I campaign constantly to preserve the language so it retains its music and rhythms! Good luck.

page by page books.com!! Except you cant read anything that has been.. copyrighted or something, so there are a lot of older books about sherlock holmes and the wizard of oz. Just google "page by page books" and the website should come up. It has a yellow background... and good luck!
