Believe--To accepting something as true, or possibly true [see True Believer [SD] ] without firm evidence. Fundies confuse the meaning of the word belief [IEP] with the word "knowledge" and assume that because they have a belief [CE] about something, it must be true. In spite of the frequent use of the word by Fundies, only the most educationally advanced among them are able to actually spell the word properly. Many Fundies spell the word as "beleive" or "beleeve".

Faith--Faith is commonly known as a belief, trust or confidence often based on a transpersonal relationship with God, a higher power, elements of nature and/or a perception of the human race as a whole. Faith can be placed in a person, inanimate object, state of affairs, proposition or body of propositions such as a religious credo.

Faith is distinct from hope in that faith is typically general, rather than specific to an aspect, and in contrast to a "false hope" in a fantasy, the object of faith typically transcends what can be proven scientifically and sometimes exceeds what can be objectively defined. Faith can mean believing unconditionally. It can be acceptance of something that one has been told by one who is considered trustworthy. Faith, by its very nature, requires belief outside of known fact. Faith is formed through instinct, intuition, meditation, communing with nature, prayer, or perceived usefulness of a belief system.

Although faith has generated many roots in religion, it is not necessarily a religious word and is not exercised solely in God and god alone, but can apply to any situation where judgements are made irrespective of evidence.

Faith is blind. Belief is an act of "sober will" and personal conviction. Faith does not need explanation, nor does it require proof, whereas to "believe" in something or someone you go through a complex mental & emotional process before you make up your mind.

Faith is stronger and of more comforting nature. It infuses unshakable confidence in your soul towards the object of your faith, and you tend to ignore and not listen to any criticism against the object of your faith, while it is acceptable to "discuss" your beliefs.

The purest and un-daunting belief is faith. The sum total of meta-physical judgements, expectations, hopes and beliefs of lots of people goes on to form a (religious or spiritual) faith. Faith matters with one or a large numberof people in immediate or long term basis, sparking off vast mental force towards attaiment of a greater goal. Belief is relatively a milder stimulating drive moderately operating in more a personal, or limited space and time, when the mission might also look like less demanding.

Belief is used in a common parlance, or a worldy meaning, where as Faith is much stronger. You believe your friend has not upset your calculations in acquiring something. But you have faith in particular philosophy or in God. Belief is based on assumptions arrived by circumstancial evidences, while Faith is based on your experience and it may not have any concrete evidence also.
