The two big companies on the Strip are MGM-Mirage and Harrahs:

MGM-Mirage owns: Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, MGM Grand, New York/New York, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Mirage, TI, and Circus Circus

Harrahs owns: Paris, Harrahs, Ballys, Caesars Palace, Rio (off-strip), Imperial Palace, and Flamingo

Despite the fact that it has fewer casinos, Harrahs actually brings in a little more money than MGM (7.1 billion vs. 6.5 billion) because Caesars is such a huge hit... and the company owns the land leased by the gigantic Fashion Show Mall next door as well.

Currently, only the following Strip operations are independent of the two big companies, and who knows how long that'll last:

Tropicana, Aladdin/Planet Hollywood, Barbary Coast, Venetian, Stratosphere, Wynn, Riviera, and Sahara

I just did a quick search on Expedia and most of the hotels are under $200 per night. Even the most expensive are still just over $200. If you intend to see a major show I highly recommend purchasing your tickets before you go. They are pretty impossible to find once you are in Las Vegas. Dinner can be anything from McDonald's to Spago's. So the price range is massive. A great value is the Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood. *

MGM Mirage Corp. owns a lot of them - MGM Grand, Mirage, Treasure Island, Mandalay Bay, NYNY, Monte Carlo, among others. Steve Wynn sold his casinos (Mirage, TI, Bellagio) to them a couple of years ago.
