I own a copy of Gladiator where for some reason i can play the movie with the music on, or off, and trust me, it makes a massive difference to the movie. Music works as a mood setter, all the music in Gladiator is pretty relaxing, but it still gives a certain edge in battle scenes.
For some movies, the music really makes the film flow, for others, its just there to keep people alert, if the story line is a little basic, the music is very in your face, loud, and upbeat, like for example any of the Fast and Furious series, the plot is lacking any real merit, but the tempo is there, aided by the music, where as films like Gladiator, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, long, and epic kind of films, the story grips you, so the music is more subtle. Then there are horror films, where the music is there to help build suspense, or to explode in a shock scene.
So i think some movies need the music to keep the viewers adrenaline pumping, like the cheesy action packed films (which dont get me wrong, i enjoy) and others just need to set the mood, and the music is there for atmosphere

You will know how important music is to a film when you watch it with it muted. You can leave the Closed Captioning on and still know whats going on, but all the feelings gone. This works especially well with horror movies. Take out the music, and the suspense is gone!

Scorcese was a master at using music to create mood and ambience in his films. A good soundtrack can make or break a film.
Think of films which had epic soundtracks - Titanic, Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Jurassic Park, Superman...
Whether the film was good or not, you will always know the sound track when you hear it. It reminds you of the film, and leads to more promotion, too!

Very; even when you don't think it's making a difference, you hear the music and subconsciously it affects how you feel about the things happening on the screen. Music can make or break a film.

Music is very important in a film. It can be used at a very soft, low volume during a romantic scene (to make women cry), it can be very loud, and sudden, blaring out at you (to scare the socks off you), it can be used to inspire your imagination in all ways - music is critical in setting the mood of that portion of the movie you are currently watching, and make you feel more depth of emotion than it would without music. It's part of the recipe for that old cliche'd saying "Movie Magic."
Music gives your imagination wings to ride the heavens.

Music keeps you paying attention to the movie. It also lets you know when the good is coming and when the bad is coming. Another thing it can do is make you think something bad is going on (like the true suspect is right there right now) when really it isn't. This is just to keep your mind focused on the movie/ make sure you are paying attention. Music is also relaxing while you are watching the movie.

I think it's important.....however, if the music is SO loud that you have trouble hearing the actors/actrices, THEN I think music in such films is a waste of what may be a good movie.

without the proper soundtrack, a movie in basic terms isn't as effectual! once I watch movies, the track is each thing. i admire soundtracks and that i've got a ton on my ipod. i admire the subject from Changeling, and each and every time I hear it on my ipod it makes me tear up with the aid of fact its rather unhappy track, and additionally you do no longer even would desire to understand the movie to sense unhappy. track that strikes you to sense a definite way without even understanding its history or context is the main suitable type. It shows its a very efficient piece of track. So i think of track is between the main mandatory areas of a movie (or lack there of like in solid Away which had little or no track and that created an entire distinctive sense to the movie) It additionally makes a movie memorable whilst human beings can associate a topic with a movie or series of action pictures. :)
