I recently downloaded a video clip of limewire, but it will not work on windows media player. I have downloaded several videos of limewire and they all worked, but when I try this one, it sais codec error. This is realy annoying because it took me 3 hours to download! It has happened to different videos, I just want to know if there is a way I can fix this or not.
By the way, I have the latest windows media player.

If it is illegal, why is it still up and running. Basicly, because it isn't only some of the videos are.

Codec stands for coder-decoder. Videos are compressed for the same reason Mp3s are compressed. To have uncompressed digital video it would take up too much space. You encode it. Actually what you're really looking for is the decoder part of the codec. The codec that you need to install is dependent on the video you're playing. You'll need to get more information. DivX is a commonly used one.

COmpression DECompression software.

I'd suggest you download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack with Media Player Classic 34 MB from http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm

It'll resolve your issue.

A Codec is a device or program capable of performing encoding and decoding on a digital data stream or signal.
