i hear odd sounds when i insert dvd in my drive ..it reads vcd and mp3.....but not dvd....pls help....

If the DVD is damaged, you will hear odd sounds. use a good DVD.
If you can't read a good DVD also, than you have to reload the software provided with combo drive and check if all the interface cable are connected firmly.

if its an internal laptop drive it either because your useing a new vista ready laptop or the dvd dsp chip is bad on the drive
