once you order cable internet you get a modom from the modom down to the back of the laptop you have those flat plugs about 1 in wide plug it in to that or you can go to wireless if your computer can handle it and go any where in the house without a cable

I have cable internet and it works pretty much like any hook-up. The cable guys come out, wire you to their boxes on the utility poles, you plug in the computer where they hook up the cable to, and off you go. There are a couple of things to ask though. What is the browser you are going to use? You need to know if your cable hookup comes with virus/spy-ware protection. Mine is very limited this way, and if you use AOL or MSN, those features are included. I didn't want to pay $35.00 a month for cable, then the additional fees for one of the major browsers, so I had to purchase my own virus/spyware protection, but these are an annual, not a monthly charge. Cable is quite quick, and on my service you can purchase various "levels". I choose mid-speed, always on service. I also went wireless, which was an additional effort and beyond the cable guys expertise. I can use my laptop to access the web anywhere in, or outside, without cables.

***The computer is probably configured for wireless now and will have to be re-set to work with just the cable. I think you're going to have to know how to re-configure your particular computer. good luck***

It is just as easy as checking your email from some one elses computer. Click the connection button then type in your I.D. and password. After you do this press save password and I.D. Unless you don't want to save it, but if you don't save it you will constantly have to type it in.
