Well Amused One, I am somewhat of an expert in this matter. My neighbor had played a trick on me so I tied one to his antenna. He tore it off and threw it into the intersection. In a few days the plastic inserter came off, it rained and the absorbent material expanded. I like you was very curious about its recyclability so I kept track of it. The plastic disintegrated in one month, but that tampon is still out there and it has been 3 months. Traffic, pedestrians, nothing has affected it that much. The neighbors call it the Market Street Experiment, and we banter about it freely, men and women and some kids. We will report back to you if it makes it through Halloween. Thanks for letting me share this experience!

No. They're a blend of cotton and rayon so couldn't be recycled with the paper, and the blood (and possible disease) would make them inappropriate to go with organic waste.

Not normally. I suppose it would be possible to re-use a cloth (as opposed to cheap cotton fiber) tampon by sterilizing it after each use, and there's probably some earthy-crunchy eco-friendly company out there that sells them, too. :-) I don't think I'd go for that myself, but hey....

Oh God I hope not! The thought is revolting, can't wrap my mind around the whole aspect let alone putting it into practice.

I WOULD HOPE NOT. I WOULDN'T WANT TO USE A TAMPON THAT'S BEEN RECYCLED.
