I think there is still a social stigma on a woman who is open about her sexuality, whether she is straight, lesbian, bi or however else she identifies. We can sort of gauge people's views about women and sexuality by reactions to contraceptives. Whenever a new form of contraceptive comes out, people immediately say it's a bad thing because it could make women promiscuous, be it Plan B or the cervical cancer vaccination. Birth control allows women to be more sexual than ever, and any new breakthrough seems to worry a large portion of the public, as though women who have the freedom to engage in safe sex is a bad thing. Note, however, how easy it is for men to buy condoms, how it's even encouraged, which implies that it's okay and expected for men to spread their seed. There's such a double standard when it comes to sex today; it's okay for men, but not okay for women. Men have it tough too, though--I feel that there's a social stigma on gay men and men who choose not to engage in social sex. I think society perceives these as weaknesses. Frankly, I think it's about time we all lightened up about sex and stopped using it as a benchmark to measure someone's morals and character. It's easy these days to meet hookers with hearts of golds and virgins who are bitches.

There is definitely a double standard in American society regarding women and sex. Women are told to be more open about sex, but at the same time, those that are will be labeled whores/easy/sluts, etc. Women that have children by different men are viewed in a more unfavorable way than a man in the same situation. Women that dress provocatively are more likely to receive unwanted attention than a man. The list goes on and on. I think it comes from the fact that America was founded on Puritan beliefs.

How do you mean? If you mean open about being a lesbian, I would have to say that lesbian women are accepted more readily than gay men. If you just mean open as in knowing what they want and not being afraid to go out and get it, I'd say that society is moving toward acceptance, but all too often the woman is still thought of as being promiscuous.

Men and Women have similarities and they have differences both physical and mental. (hard wired differences)
Society is made of Past experiences and Current trends.
One speaks from experience (both success and failure), the other from testing the other. (because of success and failure)
There are no limitations because there really is no definition. One thing is reliable in society. When we think about the "we" and not the "I".
Sex...we both love it. Girls do it for connection; Guys do it for release.

often times yes there is a double standard.... if men have had many partners he's a "stud", if a woman has had the same nuber of partners she's a sl*t. Does that sound fair to you?

This is from James J's wife, Beth.

" Lesbians are more accepted today cause people are intimidated by them. Chicks who are promiscuous today and say it's because they are "LIBERATED" (girls gone wild) will end up regreting the craziness they accepted into their lives one day. Hopefully, they won't be alone when that day happens." (Have a man in their lives to share the hurt with instead of other chicks that share the same sad, sad story.")

Yes there are double standards, women are sluts and whores and men are players. blah blah blah. I have sex, and I'm not crazy and repressed about it. I don't pay attention to idiodic, puritanical standards.

Have a truely wonderful day =)
