Really, there are a lot of them in L.A. In my history class a "vampire" gave his oral report on the histoy of vampirism (very good by the way, smart guy) .He concluded his report with a toast to all vampires everywhere. He then proceeded to pull out an ornate golblet from a black velvet bag. He placed it on the table, then pulled out a silver flask. He pours the contents of the flask, yes it's blood, into the goblet and takes a swig. He explians that it is real blood, given by donors who support vampire clubs. My teacher, surprisingly, does not seem shocked, instead he says" the funny thing is, you are actually the second guy to do this in my class." My teacher is real young too!

My friend says she thinks it is because many of them happen to be on the heaveir side. However she has yet to explain the exact correlation.

I disagree with her though, there are many overwieght people who are not "vampires." I think it is more psycological.

Many people are insane and can't deal with reality. Being a vampire and immortal is a legend and a mythic that takes people away from the reality of being just plain average or being nothing fantastic or memorable.

The Vampire culture in the US has been growing since the 1980's. Many people are attracted to the glamorization of the vamipre lifestyle portrayed in books by author like Anne Rice, Konstantinos, and Michelle Bellanger. It was an outgrowth of the Goth movement that started about the same time. Many that got involved were outsiders and outcasts that banded together in their gothic lifestyle. Most prominently it was a growth from a live action Fantasy Role Playing Game called Vampire: The Masquerade. Then there were television shows like Nick Night, Kindred the Embraced and Angel.

As to those that actually believe they are vampires that have a need to drink blood, there are a few of those, the most famous being Don Henrie from the Sci-Fi channel reality series Mad, Mad House a couple of years ago. Most Sanguinous (boood drinking) vampires say that they only need a very small portion of blood and only at very long intervals.

There is also a lesser know variety of vampire known as the psychic vampire that feed mainly or exclusively on the life energy emitted by every human being. They believe that it is that energy that sustains them, even though they, like the blood drinkers, say that they only need to feed sporadically, maybe every 10 to 14 days or so.

As to why they believe this, some would simply call them mad. I would say that at least some of them ARE truly what they claim to be, in so much as having a need for blood or life enegy. I have encountered a number of those that fall into either category, and a few that fall into both. I have witnessed what happen to the physically when they don't feed and have seen the changes that occur physically when they do.

As to the rest, the pretenders...somewhere inside themsleves they know it's only a flight of fancy and eventually will move on to some other interest....forever seeking what what they will never find....mostly becasue they are looking in the wrong place.

They are wannabees idiots, That drink blood and think that it cool. The really should read their bible and find out what God has to say about that. They are doomed and the just don't know it yet. Also if they ever really run into a real vampire lol then they will know the true horrors of what they are trying to imitate.

Vampirism is the practice of drinking blood from a person/animal. In folklore and popular culture, the term generally refers to a belief that one can gain supernatural powers by drinking human blood. The historical practice of vampirism can generally be considered a more specific and less commonly occurring form of cannibalism. The consumption of another's blood (and/or flesh) has been used as a tactic of psychological warfare intended to terrorize the enemy, and it can be used to reflect various spiritual beliefs.

Some people have natural things that make them shine. Others do not so create things. It is no different then goth, purple mohawks & other things (just a bit more exteme). It is most comman in scholl cuz at this age is when most people have the fewest things going for them so they resort to how they look & act.
