perimeterr of the rectangle = 2(l+w) where l is the lengthand w the width
2(l+w)= 36 i.e
l+w =36/2 =18
it is also given that l= w+4
sustituting for l
w+4+w = 18
2w+4 =18
2w = 14
w =7
l= w+4 =7+4 =11
so width is 7 cm and length is 11cm
Check
Perimeter = 2(l+w) = 2(7+11) = 2(18) = 36
so the answer is correct
(always try to check answer by such simple method)

P(rectangle) = 2(l+w)
let l be the length
and w be the width

so l = w+4
P = 36

36 = 2(w+4 + w)
36 = 2 ( 2w + 4)

divide both sides by 2

18 = 2w + 4
18 - 4 = 2w + 4 - 4

14 = 2w

again divide it by 2

w = 7

l = w+ 4
l = 7 + 4
l = 11

36 = 2(7+11)
36 = 2*18
36 = 36

Hi. OK, the total is 36 for four sides. This means that two sides adjacent to each other are half of this, or 18. So the width and length added together equals 18. Half of this is 9 (I'm being ridiculous here but bear width me 'pun intended'). Add 2 to 9 (11) and take 2 from 9 (7). Got it?

first ,we can calculate the result of length plus width
that is 36/2=18
suppose X is the length,the we can get the equation
X+(X-4)=18 so ,X=11 therefore the width is 7

2(L+W) = 36
L = W + 4
2(W+W+4) = 36
2W +4 = 18
2W = 14
W = 7
L = 11
