I could understand if Bush had created an office of faith-based initiatives outside of the White House, but how does the existence of this office in the White House not violate the concept of separation of church and state?

Does the office have the power to allocate federal money to religious organizatons? If it does, are there any strings attached?

Im not actually familiar with this office. But honestly, the fact that Bush created it means to me that it is most likely better named "Office of Christian-Based Initiatives", as we all know that Bush certainly wont be discussing ways to avoid the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. This is precisely the reason that separation of church and state is necessary and in place...because we don't all agree on issues such as these..therefore, any office of faith-based initiatives is not in the interest of the people, but in the interest of one religion or another. And of course we all know, America is a country of religious tolerance..or so they say we are.....This is inarguably wrong.

The reason Bush can have it in the White House is that it's not limited to any particular faith. He's not making any law 'respecting an establishment of religion,' nor is he 'restricting the free practice thereof.' He's just trying to use already-established aid organizations to get help to the people who need it, instead of inventing a bunch of bureaucratic government programs to duplicate their efforts.
