Because when you've been together for so long, you cannot walk away from each other as you are best friends. It means in your subconscious, you really care for that person.

you really dont give enough information concerning your own personal situation. What has taken place in your relationship prompting you to use the word "still"? Has there been lost of trust? Has your mate been dishonest or have you just drifted apart because of different interests? You dont say whether you WANT the relationship to improve and stay intac. How does your mate feel about the state of being your relationship is in? I can give you some insight from my own personal relationship, where at one time or another through the years, I questioned why i STAYED in the relationship. My mate, on two occasions that i know of, was unfaithful to me. I hated him for that. At my request, he left our home for a month and that gave me the space i needed to actually feel what my world would be like, how i would feel, without him in my life. I hated the empty feeling i felt when i forced myself into believing he was gone forever. Those 30 days without him made me aware of how much this person was a part of my life, my happiness, and my well being. Luckily for me, my partner experienced intense feelings for me during those 30 days we spent with no contact. Having put himself in a space, void of me being in that space, he too realized that i was a part of his life that he would surely miss if i were never return. That was 6 years ago and we are still together today. Perhaps you dont love your partner? Sometimes a relationship just gets too routine or boring. Again, i dont know what your circumstances are. Perhaps you long to get out of your relationship but there is stability (if nothing else), and you have your doubts about going it alone. Good luck and I wish you gave more info!

Must be some kind of sick love. I'm doing it myself now and can't seem to really break away from it, and I really want to. Maybe after our 15 year old daughter reaches 18, we won't have anything to talk about. he's married, I am not, and I think he feels obligated to be a part of my life because he left me and married another woman, whom he really doesn't love, but she beats a blank. Just blame it on sick love, I did.

we are social being. we hand to each other because we need the companionship. At the most basic level, the why is not important.

I DID FOR YEARS UNTIL I MET SOMEONE THAT I REALLY WANTED TO BE WITH. NOW THE TIME JUST FLYS BY AND WE DON'T KNOW WHERE THE DAYS GO. WE ALSO REALIZE HOW PRECIOUS EACH AND EVERY DAY IS TO BE TOGETHER.

sense of security. sometimes we are just afraid to move on. you need time to understand someone new, comflicts might arises along the way. frighten about the unknown, and maybe we are just too used to the usual, routine way.
