My friend has a dell monitor (E771P) that has some display problems; when i opened the settings, it only has 16 colors--is it possible to see if there are more, or would she be better off getting a new monitor?

there's no probs wid da moniter . do install da graphics card driver , dat would solve da problem....

That 16 color is common if your video card don't have the necessary drivers. Please install the video card driver of your computer then you will get more option on your monitor resolution.
