I need to repair a window by placing boards over it and paint it. It is about 40 ft above ground my ladder is 28ft. Renting boom truck is very expensive. I can buy 40 ft ladder but I will have to drive it on new pickup for 75 miles to get it to the building and I am afreaid that it may not be most stable option. Winter is comming and I do not have any clever ideas...Any suggestions. Please consider the cost..

If you put a blanket on the cab of your pick up and using soft rope, you might be able to haul the ladder. If you did not go over any bumpy roads, relatively flat, you might haul the ladder under the truck. I have done that with 20 foot long rebar. Just don't high center it or you will destroy the ladder.

If you have a camper shell, that still may not be high enough to put the ladder on top of your camper shell. Other than that, the bucket truck looks like it may be looming in your future. There are two kinds. One is a scissors, it is the least expenisve to rent. It will work as long as you can get fairly close to directly under the window.

There has to be a way to take the strips that hold the glass frame in place. Usually it is just a strip about 1/2 " thick and be pried out. Then you can take the window glass frame out from the inside. Then with some boards and a safety rope you can do everything through the opening.. Even if you have to break the retaining strips out, they can be repaired with elmers glue and nails.

You can't use a 40 ft. ladder to go 40 ft up! Depending on the job you'll need a 60 ft /.....lift. I'm a pro. painter P LEASE Don't try this

If it's a window, can't you get access to the inside of it? Even if it is in an attic, there should be a way up in there. Just a thought. Good luck.

I would hire a painter to do it. It would be cheaper than a boom truck, and a lot easier on you. Let him worry about how to do it.

Hire contractors. It may be more expensive, but I don't screw around at those heights.
