At what stage of development in the womb does the baby share any of the mother's food (if any at all)? If the mother drinks during pregency, say beer, does the baby get drunk and move around kicking slightly?

A pregnant woman should never drink. The alcohol passes through the placenta to the fetus and can cause intellectual problems, cleft palate and growth problems. FAS = Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is when an unborn child is seriously affected by alcohol problems (usually a mother who drinks heavily).

Because it isnt really known how much alcohol is safe for a mother to drink it isnt recommended at all in most countries.

Also the fetus doesnt actually always share the food from the mother, but dont believe the myth that a pregnant woman can eat for two. Its not needed. The baby usually gets tastebuds and can actually taste tiny amounts of undigested food from what the mother eats after 30 weeks and usually can distinguish between sweet and savoury. Mainly its just the nutrients from the food that gets through to the baby first tho.

The baby doesn't exactly "share" the food. The nutrients go into the mother's blood and then through the umbilical cord to the baby. If the mother drinks alcohol, this also goes into her blood system so it does go the baby. It's a really terrible thing to do to a baby. It causes fetal alcohol syndrome if done too many times.

Its not cute or funny, a baby in gestation with alcohol in the mother's circulatory system will get some degree of brain damage or learning disability or become an addictive personality or alcoholic...a little for you may be a lot for that little developing body. Don't have any alcohol during any stage of pregnancy. Life will be more difficult and less rewarding for this new person in future years, learning may be too hard a struggle, and life won't seem fair to this new person, all its life.

Everything the mother eats goes straight to the baby. No woman should drink beer or liquor during the pregnancy or when nursing a baby. The baby eats what the mother eats.

Yes a unbornbaby can get drunk, I read a very sad story in my local paper a few months ago, about a mother a drunk who cared nothing for her child the baby had twice the legal alcohol limit when it was born. Its just plan sad, I don’t know what it says about someone if they cant give up alcoholic for a mere 9months.

the baby doesnt "share" the food but will absorb the nutrients through his/her umbilical cord. no the baby will not get drunk but drinking while pregnant can cause the baby to have down syndrome, i dont recommend it.

Yes, the baby shares all of the mother's food and drink.
Alcohol consumption is very, very dangerous and leads, basically, to this:

So don't do it. Ever.

FAS is a very serious concern....alcohol should be avoided when you're pregnant! As for foods that you eat, what you eat is what is fueling the nutrition that your baby gets.
