Babe Ruth was a baseball player from about 1920 to the mid 1930's While he started playing for the Boston Red Sox, he was traded to the New York Yankees and is best known for playing with them. His biggest claim to fame was that he hit 714 home runs during his career, and 60 home runs in one season. (I think it was 1927.) For more information, just Google his name. There must be a ton of stuff on the web about him.

He was considered the first great baseball sluger. Not only was a tremendous pitcher, but also an amazing batter (only player to do well at both spots). Finished his career with 714 homeruns (3rd all time) and above .300 average.

He hit 415 home runs with a great batting average and was a great pitcher too.
He didn't just play baseball, he was/is baseball.
He built Yankee Stadium.
He loved children and often came to the game with a hangover.
