Aww, I absolutely adore Hunter S. Thompson....
Anyways, I'm going to go with Jerry Garcia. He grew up in the same town as me and there are a lot of wild stories floating around.

Well, I'd have to say Syd Barrett did the most legal drugs, that's for sure. The guy went and killed someone and got declared insane. They give you drugs for that.
I'm a little surprised Jim Morrison isn't on there, he is the first name that springs to mind. Either he did way too many drugs or he just had massive mental health issues to think he was that good a poet.
but of the ones that are on there, it'd have to be keith richards. he was probably the most hardcore anyway. Lennon did acid with the beatles, and by the looks of him did a lot of pot. Ozzy is just retarded anyway, with or without drugs, so he's hard to measure. Keith moon, well i could put up an argument for him more so than jerry garcia. Kurt cobain wasn't around long enough to make the top. Snoop dogg is a pansy. Bob marley was just heavy on the pot. think that's all

Keith Richards. Considering Keith, Ozzy and Snoop Dogg are the only ones on the list who are still alive, Keith is definitely the one who should be dead. I mean, we're talking about a guy who got busted in Toronto with an ounce of heroin and three ounces of cocaine and this was just his PERSONAL STASH...Jesus Christ. I bet he even outdid the late Dr Thompson (R.I.P.), in his prime.
Although I'm pretty sure Syd Barrett beats out John Lennon and Jerry Garcia for acid, though...at least L & G came back from the trip.
Moonie and Ozzy were more into pills than anything else.
Cobain liked his smack, sure, but I think heroin was the least of that boy's problems...
As for the rest...I don't even consider pot a drug...it's another form of oxygen as far as I'm concerned!
Still, I'd add three more musicians to your list, for honourable mention purposes, if nothing else:

What about Scott Weiland ..?? It seemed like he was arrested every other week for drugs ....But outta that list Keith Richards wins hands down. Most of the others are dead and Keith Richards is still he soo that means he can still do the drugs !!!!!! Plus Richards is kinda immortal after taking all that stuff... if it didn't kill him I don't think nothing will.

Toss up between Ozzy and Keith Richards. Although some of the other "contestants" used a fair amount, these two are the sands of time. They have made it through thick and thin, but are like cockroaches or the energizer bunny, there is no stopping them.

wow its super close, but I would have to go with Jerry Garcia, my second choice would be Kurt, but the age has me pretty sure I am right, shame too as he'd still be here with us but there's some super tunes waiting on us when we all get there, great question btw, your list is one you really have to think on, only bad thing you make us think and sorta dated us lol, well we may have gone to the library yup thats it rolol, not, have a good one!

OK so if you take it by quantity it is definitely bob Marley...he is a Rastafarian you know,marijuana,holy plant he probably smoked it like smokers smoke cigars...or at least once a day.As for diversity..tough choice I'm gonna say Ozzy, i bet he's still doing it...and he has so many years behind him...i mean look at him...
But my no1(universally)would be Sid vicious he was the king of junkies and no2...let's say Elvis
