In the "secret of brockback mountain" I didn't understand how jack twist died.His wife said that it was because "a flat tire of his car..." but the flash back shows he been murdered.

He got gay bashed. She didn't want the "world" to know that her husband was gay because then everyone would be like "oh she is SO bad she turned her husband gay" type thing. So she lied about his death to hide the shame.

Jack's wife is lying, either to protect her reputation or the men who killed her husband. The flashback scene is what actually happened to Jack. A group of men from the town, probably related to the wife of the man Jack was sleeping with, killed him.

his wife was embarrassed that her husband was gay and lied. jack died because he tried to pick up some guy in a bar and the guy wasn't gay so he and his friends beat jack to death.

of course she was lying or really didn't know. but my guess is that she knew and knew he knew so she didn't want to bluntly say, he got murdered. but the flashback shows how he really died.
