Fake contractions. It is really contractions that are just getting your body ready for the real thing. It feels like a tightening of your belly or it can feel like mild cramps.

Definition of Contractions, Braxton Hicks
Contractions, Braxton Hicks: Irregular contractions of the womb (the uterus) occurring towards the middle of pregnancy in the first pregnancy and, earlier and more intensely, in subsequent pregnancies.
These contractions tend to occur during physical activity. The uterus tightens for 30 to 60 seconds beginning at the top of the uterus; and the contraction gradually spreads downward before relaxing. Although said to be painless, Braxton Hicks contractions may be quite uncomfortable and sometimes difficult to distinguish from the contractions of true labor.
Not named for a Dr. Braxton and a Dr. Hicks but for John Braxton Hicks (1823-1897), a British gynecologist.

Braxton Hicks contractions are painless contractions that can occur in pregnancy but do not indicate labor.
Check this out: http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/laborbasics/a/bhctx.htm
Check it out, and ask your doctor. You'll get better information from him or her than you can from Yahoo Answers, dear.

Exactly what Mommysroc said is true.
It may be painful or you may not really notice them and pass them off as something else, like a tummy ache (which is what I did).
I had them in the last two weeks of my pregnancy and didn't even know. Having said that, the last few days were probably actual mild contractions and I didn't know!

Its another name for false labour, your stomachs contracting (the movement in which the baby helps get pushed out at labour) its usually nothing as it gets more intense as the pregnancy goes.
