I haven't really been able to find any marks comparing the new laptop processors, but from judging how well the new core microarchitecture is working in the desktop Core 2 Duos, I would say that the laptop version is probably better also. Of course it is more expensive too.

Do your homework on the two - the AMD model is getting MUCH better critical feedback. General advantages for AMD:
Runs lighter and cooler (over-heating has long been a problem for Intel - here again the heat output is higher in the Intel dual-cores)
More expensive
AMD has the speed advantage hands down
Much better compatibility for Vista
Compliment this up with a hybrid-drive (if HP are offering yet) and a decent GPU (graphics card) and you'll have a mean system indeed

It purely depends on your Use...
If u r willing to use 4-6 hrs a day AMD is better but if Ur prefers more then 6 hrs go for Intel.
however, AMD 64 bit processor is faster then any processor in this world. even faster then Intel xenon processor, or duo core,etc... however, it generates tremendous heat and that is the only drawback of AMD. other wise - Cost , Speed, Efficiency and Accuracy is in the favor of AMD. But Long term usageness is with Intel.

I think the intel core 2 duo one would be faster, but again like u said.. it was a lot more expensive.. and for that performance it gives over the Turion X2 it is really not worth it.. most people wont realize that performance increase... but if u hv got the cash then why not???
I like the turion X2 just because it has a better direct connect architecture, and they have faster processor bus (1ghz-2ghz) vs intel 677mhz or 800mhz ... Turion's X2 are also 64bit !!! good for Vista.... Core 2 duo's are 64bit.. but turions are cheaper for the same technology!

well , it depends on what do U need them for !
what I'm gonna say is a basic difference between Intel and AMD , not specific for these 2 models that U mentioned .
AMD is usually more complicated in design than Intel , which may get Little ( hotter ) in action , but at the same time , AMD is better if U are seeking 3D designs and such stuff,
while for more complex calculations , an Intel is usually faster
so , if U are a photo shop and 3d freak , go for AMD
if U are having a company business and stuff go for Intel

Personally Judging from experience, Intel and Amd are pretty much identical, technically speaking, the major differences being cost due to marketing and all that other blah, performance wise Intel has an edge due to finance which results is better resourses for research and parts sourcing, although this difference in performance would be most noticable on paper(i mean labortory style evaluation) but intel does have an edge on amd. With all that being said i ll just give suggestions for you to choose from, are you looking for max performance or economy.(I personally recommend the Intel, its the more known processor for a reason!!)

Intel is a better preference. I've been using Intel ever since from Pentium MMX to Pentium Core Duo and never had a problem. I used to have an AMD PC which overheated and crashed and complained to AMD anf there response is "I'm sorry but it's user's problem." This is quite real and I am not exaggerating so from now on it's only INTEL. Plus Intel has a lot better hotline than AMD.

I think the Core 2 Duo is the best. It has dominated AMD CPU's in every benchmark test i have seen. If you want performance, go for the Core 2. However, if you simply want a functional computer, you must consider the price difference.

AMD. AMD beats intel in almost every measure. They are a smaller more nimble company. When and if they reach Intel's size, then things will probably even out. In the mean time pick AMD. See link below...

see. Both processors work same. Difference is price because AMD is not so popular & has to acquire market share from intel which is having around 80%. Today AMD is giving full competion to Intel.
