I know i am gonna get slammed for this comment but here it is. No i do not like sex offenders however it is a blanket cover. I know a person that was over 18 that was drinking at a party and had sex with a person who said they were over 18 but found out they were only 16 that got mad after the party then cried rape. This person was wrong. Now the guy has to register as a sex offender the rest of his life. This is where the system fails some people.

The US Constitution is built around the idea that, no matter how unpopular the crime, each person has certain rights. Those rights are the same no matter if someone is charged with shoplifting or murder.
The problem with sex offenders is that society has bought into the idea that people are born with their basic sexual behaviors pre-wired. For instance, gays and lesbians will tell you that they were born this way, and insist on being "accepted" because of it.
Pedophiles and rapists believe that they are "born this way" too. Sadly, they may be right. If this is the case, there is no hope of changing them -- it would be like trying to make me into a flaming gay guy. If that is true, in order to protect society we should indeed keep them away from the rest of the world. I once knew a psychologist who treated sex offenders (I live near a max security prison) and he said that he treated many, many people who should never be out of prison.
Unfortunately, this means that our Constitutional rights run smack dab into our need to protect ourselves (sound like another current event?). If prisons are the only place to keep people away from the population that threaten us, then should we keep them in prison forever?
The sex offender ID system seems to be the most that the Constitution will give us to defend ourselves. In that respect, it is harsh, but there is a real sense that sex offenders cannot be treated.
I do feel sorry for the guy who was convicted of public urination, or the 19 year old who gets his 16 year old girlfriend PG -- they both go on the "sex offender" registry. I do hope that they find a way to determine who is likely to be a danger, and who is not likely, when they publish the lists.
Signed --
man who was raped by a man when I was 14

Sex predators have overwhelmingly more rights than any of their victims!!
If you or a child are violated it is up to you or the child to prove yourself, which is usually a whole new torturous path.
I believe that any person who preys and violates children should (once convicted) be EXTINGUISHED!!!!
when people prey on the helpless they are of no value to society!!!
People need also to take a very therapeutic role with children who have been victimized in order to ensure (hopefully) that they also will not become predators.
So many of these dirty bastards claim that they were also molested or raped WHEN they were children. And I am sure that when they were innocent they were victimized and for that I am sorry however, they were children, NOW they are Adults who make willful decisions to pervert and violate children. Our society has no use for them! They ALWAYS violate again Kill 'em All

There rights usually don't include complete anonymity. There are two registered sex offenders that live near my aunt and uncle, and the neighborhood was made aware of their presence.

They should go to and stay in prision - it's sad how in our legalistic crap-shoot of a justice system - such abusers have more 'rights' than their victims...
