I was recently online looking for a Flyers' jersey. I found that all the women's were PINK. I then went to all the other team sites and all of their "womens'" jerseys and t-shirts are pink. How can I feel like I'm supporting my team wearing a pink shirt? I feel like they are catering to the women who don't care about hockey and are just there to pick up guys or impress their boyfriend.

Can you imagine if they made all men's hockey jerseys black? None of them have the team colors. You'd think it was pretty ridiculous.
This is f@cking HOCKEY. Pink had NO business in it.
Does anyone have any creative solutions for this issue? If not let me know your opinions on the subject.

I'm going to offer a different opinion.

Right now, the NHL has problems with numbers. Not enough people spectating, not enough people buying tickets or watching the game on TV.

Right now, there's a whole generation of little girls about to choose what sport they'd like to do.

If they choose hockey, that's another generation of women who will feed and promote this amazing sport.

Here's what I think: I don't wear pink gloves. I don't use pink stick tape, I don't wear a pink jersey, none of my gear is pink. I know that stuff's available, and I see a fair amount of women using it, and a *lot* of girls.

If part of the stigma of hockey for girls is that it's "unfeminine" or "just for boys," why not package and promote it for girls, why not make it attractive to girls who - however unfortunately - will recognize pink as something "theirs?"

Right now, with the state of hockey as it is, I'm all for doing whatever it takes to bring more girls to the sport. You and I may dislike the pink gear, clothes and other tchotchkes, but let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater. Some girls like that stuff, and if those girls wind up being fans or playing?

Give them the pink stuff. Give them all the pink gear they want.

You know what I mean?

I got angry in the 90's when Disney started the Mighty Ducks and teams like Phoenix started using contemporary sweaters with cartoon stuff all over them. I still wouldn't buy one of those, but I get excited to see people following and getting involved in hockey. They could be wearing basketball shirts supporting the 76ers, now that would hurt my feelings.

i believe this is another one of gary bettman's ideas to sell hockey in the south. seriously a true female fan would not buy one of those jerseys. i would feel humilated if i had to wear a pink jersey in the sea of maple leaf blue and white.

You go girl. Seriously, if you are interested, I have a men's large Flyers road jersey that I'll let go for $30 (U.S.) It has never been played in and has no number or name on it. Wore it to a couple games at the Center. I got it back when the black jersey was the alternate one. I don't fit in it anymore. E-mail me through the Answers link.
