My 3 year old daughter is afraid of her room because she says there's a little boy that lives in her walls. I think she has a very vivid imagination and has watched a few too many Halloween specials as of lately. Some people have been telling me that it's probably true because kids can see ghosts.. do people actually believe that?

Yes I do, One day long ago I heard my 4 year old son talking to someone in his room. I walked down the hallway in my house to his room. His voice got a bit louder. I got this eerie feeling and a chill went down my spine. He did talk alot as a child but this was totally different. It was as if he was answering questions that someone in the room was asking. I stood outside the bedroom door a bit longer. After a few more seconds I opened the door really fast thinking I would actually see someone in there with him. He was facing the rocking chair. I asked him who he was talking to and he said a man. I said what man. He told me he was all gone now. After that happened I always told him I didnt want him to close his bedroom door. I was sitting in the living room about 3 weeks after it happened and I heard my son talking to someone again. I stood up and looked down the hallway. I saw my son sitting on the floor again. I started down the hallway again. As I was walking to his room his door slammed shut. This happened without my son getting up or touching the door. I tried to open the door, need I say a door that didnt lock at all would not open. I started pushing up against the door real hard. Finally it opened. The chair was rocking. After that I moved, but I am always nervous that this thing is following us because strange things still happen from time to time.

This is a yes and no question. But whether or not they see ghosts isn't really the issue. It's how this ghost is making your daughter feel. Think about it; she is only three years old. If she were making up a story about a boy who lives in her walls, it would probably be a funny or happy boy, not one who scares her. So assuming there really IS a ghost, I shall continue. Sometimes children aren't actually seeing or hearing ghosts, but feeling them. Children have very raw emotions and can very easily sense what others are feeling. Many outgrow this intuition because we are taught logic and reason should take it's place. It is very scary to sense something you can't see. Ask her more about this boy. Is he happy, mad, sad, mean. Which wall does he live in? Does he ever live in the floor, ceiling, or another room? How big is he? This will give you more of an idea of what you're really dealing with. Also next time she comes to you saying that this boy is scaring her, teach her to stand up for herself by example. She knows mommy is her greatest defender, so drop what you're doing and march directly to her room step inside and angrily state in a loud voice "I've had it with you! Get out of my daughter's room right now." Say and feel it as you would if there really WERE a stranger in your daughter's room. Tell her that is he comes back she can yell at him to "go away" or "go away or I'll tell my mommy again". This anger/defiance will not only take the place of fear, it will repel him.
If she says the boy is not mean, mad or sad, it could very well be a spirit that watches over her. Remember, it is scary to sense something you can't see. However, spirits that watch over you don't try to scare you unless they are trying to protect you from something. So when she tells you that she's seen him, keep an eye on who comes over to play with your daughter, or who enters your daughters room next. It could be someone with ill-intent that this ghost was trying to protect your daughter from.

Can she see ghost? Maybe...it could be true or just her imagination. I think the MOST important thing is how you handle it. You need to ease her fear real or otherwise. I suggest you go in her room with her before bed and stay with her until she calms down. Then say out loud (no matter how silly you think you sound)"Please leave my daughter alone, she does not want you to visit, this is HER room! Then say a prayer with your daughter and help reassure her that there are always angels around her to keep her safe.
~~Personally I believe that there are ghosts (spirits) and children are far more likely to see them. Sometimes it scares children, sometimes not...but you sound like a wonderful mom:) and I am sure you will help get her through this!

Yes, totally. I am a kid myself and I have been able to see ghosts since I was very young. I can see strange mists and lights and shapes that look like human bodies all the time. I can also feel the energy in the room change when a spirit is in there. Sometimes I can even smell strange scents like cigar smoke or perfume that isn t quite there. I sometimes get really scared in the middle of the night and I feel like someone is standing next to me. Recently, I was awoken because I was scared and I thought I heard my brother get up and go to the bathroom. He was sleeping with my dog that night and I thought I heard the dog get up and go to the door. I was so scared and so I called for my brother and asked him to turn on my light. There was no answer, so I called again. No answer. I heard his little footsteps walk to the bathroom, but he wouldn t call back. And then I saw the weirdest thing, a blue light shone brightly and I knew it wasn t my brother, but a spirit. I was so scared I couldn t breathe. I pulled the covers over my head and went back to sleep. In the morning I asked my brother if he got up to use the bathroom but he said no. But he did say he heard me calling him from his bed and then the dog jumped off the bed to something at the door. I thought about this and realized maybe the dog even heard the spirit too. This has happened to me a few times and I really do believe in ghosts.

I have been researching the subject of ghosts and the accounts of children seeing ghosts is quite numerous. Contrary to popular belief, ghosts are mostly passive and are mere images that do not interact with us. "Imprints" or a type of "visual echo" might be better terms to explain the phenomenon. If your daughter claims to interact with the ghost, you might suggest that she ask it a question that she herself would not know the answer to, but an answer that you would know. A test. You can get cameras for monitoring rooms very inexpensive now that even have night vision capability - you might try one in her room and record it on a VCR. I will also recommend highly any book on the subject by Joshua P. Warren. He is very level headed about this stuff and is quite knowledgeable. Good luck and Happy Halloween!

Yes, I believe they can see ghosts. My Eldest daughter when she
was younger see too experienced seeing a ghost which would
care the hell out of her she would wake me up crying. My other
daughter at 3 (now 9) seen a guy in my closet and I found out
that a guy committed suicide there. She was scared and didn't
want to talk about it, but I kept asking her and she described him
to the T. My grand-daughter is 3 and she seen a guy and girl
walking out of my hall way. I was watching TV and all of a
sudden she started running like she was a chicken without
a head, I ask her what was going on and she said who is that,
I was like who. She is still scared till this day. This happened
this summer (06). So again yes I do believe.

I've heard a legend that Ghosts can only be seen by children, the mentally challenged and animals. I don't know if that's true or not but I notice one similarity in the 3 groups. They are all Innocents. Let's just hope the "Little Boy" is just your daughter's creative imagination.

I think its very possible that what shes saying is true. But I dont think kids in general can see them. Some people I think are more tuned in to the supernatural than others. Such as mediums. I think animals can see them or at least can sense them greatly. Im 17 and I, like everyone else can remember certain memories as a kid. And I'm pretty sure if I saw a ghost that I wouldnt forget it.

No they don't actually. I have a 3 year old son and I have heard complains of the same nature over and over again but I also know that they have a vivd imagination coz no one story lasts for more than a week. Its either elmo in his closet or Chucky on his bed post or crocodile under his bed and the best part is the are so descriptive and accurate every time it seem so real. So no don't worry your daughter is not seeing ghosts. But never discourage her of her imagination

I totally believe that kids are able to see things. Kids are more apt to see things because they are still innocent and openminded. They haven't been ingrained yet that it is entirely their imagination, nor should they be. Adults tend to be jaded and closeminded, and thus can't see anything so they tell kids and each other that everything is entirely made up. There is much more out there than meets the eye. Kids (and adults) experience fear for a reason. If you keep telling your daughter that she is making this up, she will learn to not trust you.
