I have always thought it was pronounced Zoo-ey.

If Salinger would of liked Zachary Glass' nickname to be said Z-oh-e he would have spelt it Zoe, not Zooey! Does anyone know for sure?

I've always been a Zoo-ee, guy, and apparently this other English prof is, too:

graceless, in response to the Franny and Zooey question, I had a fantastic English professor my first year of college who said "ZOO-ee" -- not "ZOH-ee" -- and I would guess that he's right. He was dead-on about pretty much everything else, so I think you're safe with ZOO-ee."

I guess only J.D. knows for sure, and, given his reputation, I doubt we'll be hearing from him.
