In conversation, I listen to every word the other person says. I study their face while they're talking if we are in each other's presence. I'm interested in the other person's ideas, thoughts, concerns. I love trying to figure out what makes people tick. If I sense a need, I offer encouragement or support.
On the other hand, when someone is telling me something I need to listen to, I tend to tune them out.

I'm too busy thinking of what i'm going to say next.
I could go so far as to say this is my worst trait/habit/whatever-you-want-to-call-it.
I never truly listen to people.
I just wait until their mouth stops moving and i say whatever comes to mind.
I interrupt constantly just so that i get heard.
I really don't know when to just shut up.
I've perfected the whole "nod-like-you're-interested" thing and i hate myself because of it.
I wish i did hang on to someone's every word. Maybe then i'd manage to not come off as an uneducated idiot.
For instance, i ran into an acquaintance the other day at the university. And we were talking about what we were studying. And then i interrupted her and got into this whole tirade of how i don't want to be one of those doctors that sells out and starts doing it just for the money. And then i said this "my greatness will determine my demise"... It came out as superficial and egotistical and i wanted to slap myself.
If i just took the time to truly listen and then think before speaking.... i'd be set.

My mama. whether she could be a touch distinctive then you quite're speaking of... She takes what you're saying and performs distinctive eventualities in her ideas after that could't bear in mind what's actual so she selections what she thinks is actual and believes herself. it quite is extremely demanding! i admire her besides the shown fact that it quite is extremely perplexing to have a communique along with her. i've got lived around the corner to her for quite a few years. that would desire to hitch my frustration. :) Have an attractive nighttime!

I hang onto the words so tightly that sometimes, with certain special people in my life, I feel like I become a part of them, if only for a brief moment in time :)

I find that if I do that, I lose interest.
Edit for details: I'm a great listener but a better talker! Also, I am very analytical, so if I listen to one person's words too closely, I start to see a bigger picture and it starts to become very clear who they really are... sometimes I don't like who they really are!

No, I don't, that's one of my biggest problems. I just try to catch the gist but miss a lot of the key points.

Ellen DeGeneres because she's funny.
Maya Angelou because she's wise.
Stephen King because he's clever.
Bill Cosby because he's savvy.
Jon Bon Jovi because he's a great lyricist.
George W Bush because he's an amusing idiot.
