The oil is in the motor but it gets traped in the top of the motor. the engine is gummed up from lack of oil changes..Change the oil every 1500-2000 miles till it gets cleaner. Also get the richness fixed it can be washing out the rings and can cause serious damage along with burning the oil because the fuel thins the oil....

Chances are the oil return holes are clogged in the cylinder heads trapping the oil in the upper portion of your engine. As you drive your car, if the oil is trapped, it will seep down the valve guide and burn through the combustion chamber, the oil that burns is so minimal that you never see the smoke, but over time can generate up to a quart of oil or more.

If your going to change your oil, use Gunk Engine Flush. The stuff really cleans the goop and sludge out of an engine. It's an easy 5 min process. Oh, and check your oil on a cold engine, don't start it, stop and check.

There only two other places for engine oil to go, if it's not leaking externally, either the valve seals or the piston rings.
