You know what this is like you have curly hair you want straight hari you are born with brown eyes you want blue. Many people I know are NOT conent and depressed they are like a well that constantly needs more water they always want more and more and are not content. Why is this.?

My husband and I have our paychecks and about 30 boxes to our name and we are happy because we know with God and hard work we will schieve our goal.

But I feel that the majority of the people are sad, dissatified and at times miserable, yet most people I know that are like this HAVE everything materially with extra to spare?

How can I minister to these people in a too much is not enough society?

It will be difficult to get your message through..... Unfortunately, we do live in a society brainwashed with the idea that it is "what you have" that makes "who you are".... In this instant gratification mentality one can easily be misdirected from what is truly meaningful in life. Love, friendship, family, community, dignity, honesty and so much more are lost in the confusion by the bombardment from all the commercial outlets constantly telling us all we need is something more, better, or newer.....We need to take responsibility for ourselves and our families doing our best to combat this barrage of self-centered insanity and instilling values of importance..... Just a thought...... Peace....

People haven't figured out that material possessions are not the route to happiness. People always think "if I just had THIS I'd be happy", then they get it and they think of another THIS that they need to be happy, and so on.. and so on. It's people that hold their material wealth as such a high priority in their lives that are usually the most miserable, and empty. Even in 3rd world countries where life is A LOT tougher than it is here, I bet many of them are truly happier. Happiness can be found in the company we keep, acting kind toward others, trying to help others, and family and friends. People don't realize that when they die their BMW and $1400 purse aren't going with them.

Just ask them are you satisfied with your material world. Most of them are empty, trying to fill themselves with stuff.

I am in the same boat. I want more. I want to win the lottery, go on vacation, have a nice car, a plane, and never work again. But I know if I got all of those things I would be more miserable than I am now.

The author of Ecclesiastes (King Solomon some say) says a lot about the futile pursuit of pleasure and possesions. He was the richest guy on earth, yet he was only satisfied with a relationship with God.

People resent unsolicited "ministering." Wait for them to ask you or don't interfere.
But to address the issue, I really like the idea of gratitude. I first learned about doing a gratitude journal on Oprah and when I faithfully did it , my life improved dramatically in about 6 weeks. It really makes a difference. When you appreciate things, you just get more back. It is the law of attraction. Ester Hicks, who channels Abraham has discussed this quite a bit as well. And on hayhouseradio.com there are many new age philosophers who discuss this.

Life these days can be truly miserable and the illusion of more money can be a good short term solution.

You can let them know that in the end they can't take their money to the grave. But I doubt it if anyone really would not reach for more money unless it is replaced by a more meaningful goal. One thing you can preach is the precious time one can spend with love ones that don't require money. Time is more precious than money and not even the richest man on earth can buy him more time on earth.

People are taught to be dissatisfied by advertising and the like.

Even Adam Smith, one of the original "formulaters" of capitalism, spoke about this individual dissatisfaction as being a kind of "motor" for capitalism, and a necessary one at that.

This is how the corporation, in many cases, makes its money.

And as I'm sure you're aware, many people buy things because they feel empty inside.

However, they will remember your acts of kindness, caring, and love-- long after they have forgotten about the purchase of the latest iPod or cell phone this year.

But I'm sure you already knew that. If people felt secure and loved inside, their need to buy over-priced gagdets, and brand name status-symbols would severely diminish.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we are constantly bombarded with images of rich and famous people. Commercials, reality shows, magazines and such all show smiling rich people living it up and appearing care-free. The majority of people are not famous and probably never will be and this bothers a lot of people.

You should focus on showing people how temporal things of this world are. Cars rust, bodies change, money can be mismanaged, etc.

A Person's desire to have more on anything, lust, power and one-upmanship, money all make discontent, as satisfaction is not derived on what he possesses already.

I think a lot more than you think are happy the way they are. its just that those that are discontented as you put it, yell the loudest and get all the attention and those that are content dont say anything..

Because they want what YOU have.

Thus is the cause of discontent
