Here is another one of my NEW XP problems/Issues. When I play Windows Media Player, I dont get any sound, video is fine. Whether it is an .mpg .avi or .wav file, It doesnt matter, No Sound. But if I start Power DVD (even without starting to play any movie) I get the sound in WMP. I thought it would be a codec prob. so I installed "all in one Audio codec" no help. I unstalled and then updated WMP to ver 10, nothin doin. I stil can bet it has something to do with Audio codec, but I cant figure out what to do or where else to look. One more thing as long as Power DVD is on, I have the sound in WMP, as soon as I close Power DVD, sound goes with it. Any suggestions, help, recommendations?? BTW Sound Always works in Power DVD no matter what.

WMP is Not on Mute, I have checked it and btw if it was on mute it wont have any sound when I start Power DVD. Mute will override the sound. The Volume is pretty high. And now have discovered that Nero Media Player gives the following error message “Unsupported Audio Format” on all files, (I haven’t tried dvd movies yet on Nero)..

Maybe you WMP is just on mute. I've done that often, the mute button is not very obvious. Have you checked that, and checked whether the volume is all the way up?
If it works in a diff player, your codec's are correct, so it's just a problem with WMP not being able to process the codec, or just a volume issue..

I have noticed that if you have the volume in Real Player turned down low and your speakers up even when Real Player is closed the volume will remain very low in Win Media Player...Be sure the volume in Real Player is turned up before you close Real Player, Set volume on speakers half way and set vol from keyboard half way you should be able to adjust from there. Hope this may be of some help, just something I have noticed :)
