Ferret of course.
chinchillas are cute but they are not really affectionate or even curious like ferrets.
Ferrets of course are always busy and get into everything. but of course you did say i would have time and space.

Hey, we had a chinchila when I was a kid, their nockturnal animals so only really come alive at night, running around the place, jumping in and out of their sand baths. Chinchila's will love you back and give you the effect if you give it the attention. On the other hand, you can train ferret to do and number of things, the only down side is the smell, it's something you get use to but the boys smell! But if I had the chance, the space and the money, I'd probably go for the....(now when we had a chinchila I wanted a ferret) Yes I'd probably put up with the smell, and go ferret even though chinchila are lovely, you can go lots of places with a ferret on a lead and it's grumpy enough to protect itself from unwated sniffs and bites, chincilas will be gobbled up in one swoop.

Chinchillas are really nice and don't smell as bad as ferrets. I wish there was an AFFECTIVE way to make ferrets not stink, but for now I just play with them at other people's houses so I can go home to my clean dogs that don't reak. Chinchillas seem to have less health problems too. I haven't had either. I've always wanted a prarie dog since my friend had a super nice one but not alot of them are. Hope that wasn't completely confusing :)

Well it depends on what kind of pet you want. I don't know too much about chinchillas but I don't think they get too personal where as I have had a ferret for the past 5 years and she's like a cat. She is very affectionate and attached to me. They are personal animals and have an amazing personality. You defintely need to stay on your toes for a while to ferret proof but once that phase is gone they are wonderful. i think I'll always have one.

Ferret-- a chinchilla is nothing but a REALLY expensive hamster. Ferrets are intelligent, trainable animals, with an attitude similar to that of a cat. AND they live longer than three years (average lifespan of a chinchilla).
Baby N-- Ferrets aren't rodents, you idiot. They are a member of the Weasel family, along with the mink, ermine, and otters whose furs you probably love to wear...

I had three ferrets and they make awesome pets. They can be loving and playful. They do all the cute things like sleep on their back twisted into crazy positions and lick your fingers like crazy when they smell peanut butter. They can be a handleful but they make GREAT companions. Plus you can train them to walk on leashes and walk them around.
Chinchilas are awesome too, real soft and sweet tempered but they don't really do much except sleep and deshell peanuts.

Ferrets of course. They are smart. They come when their name is called. Do tricks and stuff. We get around the smell issue by giving them Marshall daily spritz. It is great for their coat and makes them smell like baby powder. Bam! smell issue solved
