People invent new religion or believe in new religion because they do not understand the religion to which they were born too. Those people are unfaithful,not-loyal and betrayer.

To explain things they aren't able to explain. Also for control. People fear an all powerful entity that can strike them dead if they don't behave. It's a very effective deterrent and you can make up your own rules as you go along. I just love those religions where even dancing is a sin.

Religion is also a way in many cultures to maintain the patriarchal status quo by keeping women subjugated and under men's control. For the life of me though I don't understand the one where if a woman get's raped she is killed or punished for bringing shame on the family. Warped.

A religion is hope. Way back there were people that lived to work for other people in return for life (food, water, and shelter) the ruler would pick random people to be through in the lion's den for others entertainment. Religion gave them hope, they were most likely thinking "Well, I work for a crapy life, and I'm about to be thrown in the lions din; after I dye I think I will be happier were ever I end up.” Like sometimes it might be heaven.

Because they are controllers of the worst possible variety. Also it is very financially rewarding. Economically, it is much like in principal to a Ponzi scheme. Those at the top live as Royalty. But guess what? The rest have hope. Is that not precious?

We follow and pay, They lead and get and We hope. Praise Something!

Ancient people just wanted to understand life and explain/ predict the world around them ... and some of them came up with some
amazing and enlightening understandings of our human predicament.

I suggest you read all the religious testaments of every religion ever invented and rethink your question !

Now we have science and it predicts much better than superstition, but it still doesn't tell us who or why we are ... we still need religious ideas to explain us.

Start by reading the "Tao te Ching" by Lao Tsu and that's just the beginning of understanding why we ' invent' religions.

You have to answer this question for yourself ... if you are serious. OK

Religion was often used by societies to keep control over people. If the people have a fear for committing sins, they wont do bad things!

Money, minipulating people for sex, and power over weaker people. Waco and Utah child brides come to mind, but these problems exist everywhere, I suppose.
