They always say in the commercials...#1 show, etc. How do they get the ratings?

the Neilsens Rating. Every night a report is made on who was watching what for how long and its divided byt age brackets. The networks get the reports first think in the morning....then advertise on the network if the show is number one.

I think that the channel gives off a certain signal. Since TV is broadcasted throughout the air, the station can pick up its transmission or signal, and interpret that has one viewer who is using their signal, hence, they're viewing the channel as specified.
