Bolshoi Theater Ballet is one of the most popular and world known ballet company, located in Moscow. American Ballet Theatre is great.

A career can last from 1 year to 60 years. I have had instructors who were a few years older than me and 30 years older than me.

It is somewhat strict. Fat Friday is nice. Healthy all through the week with no snacking and super fatty stuff.

Ideal weight and height is between 5'2" and 5'8" and weigh between 85-115 lbs.
Here is a chart.

Ballet Companies USA
American Ballet Theater
Joffrey Ballet
Houston Ballet - many, many others

The perfect ballerina is 5'6" tall and weighs no more than 115 lbs

THe average ballerina's career is less than 10 years. Male dancers can last well into their 30's

All dancers watch there diet. If they gain (or lose) too much they will not have their contracts renewed.

Ballet is changing. The 'waif' look is kinda frowned upon now as too many dancers are getting sick. A healthy vibrant performer is the ideal.
The length of career is longer too as technique training has improved greatly.
Major companies? There are plenty -- I let you do your own research on them.
