If all you want to do is access files, open help and read up on VPN. It will provide you with everything you need to know. If you want actual desktop control try a program called RealVNC. It will need to be installed on both PCs. The server would be installed on the PC you are trying to connect to and the listener on the PC you are using.

To set up this computer to use Remote Desktop

Open System in Control Panel.

On the Remote tab, select the Allow users to connect remotely to this computer check box.

Ensure that you have the proper permissions to connect to your computer remotely, and click
OK. You must be an administrator or a member of the Remote Desktop Users group on your
computer. For more information, see To allow other users to connect to your computer.

Notes

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to enable
the Remote Desktop feature.

To open a Control Panel item, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriatw
icon.

Do you have Win xp pro at home or at work?

Check out this page, it's very helpful, and once you have it setup, it works great. Be ware of problems with routers and firewalls.. you might have to give things a try a few times before they work well for you.. Good luck

If your supervisor is computer savvy, you won't. Courts have ruled that computers at work are owned by the company. They set the rules. Additionally, your are receiving compensation for your time - you owe it to them 9 to 5, or whatever.
