If a prospective juror believes that service on a jury at the time summoned would pose a hardship and an excuse is desired, he/she must notify the court either through U.S. Postal Mail or by e-mail stating what the particular hardship would be. No special form is needed to request an excuse from jury service; the request should simply be stated and indicate whether service at a later date is possible or not. Any individual requesting an excuse should include on the request the JUROR NUMBER and the DATE, TIME, and LOCATION that appears on the summons form; a TELEPHONE NUMBER should also be included in the request. If using U.S. Postal mail, all requests should be sent in the envelope provided in the summons package. It is also important to note that jurors requesting an excuse by postal mail must complete and return the questionnaire form with the request for excuse; however, if a request for excuse is e-mailed, the questionnaire should not be completed and returned unless and until the court indicates such by return e-mail.

IMPORTANT: Simply sending a request does not automatically excuse a prospective juror from jury duty. An individual is not considered excused until notified by the Jury Administrator.

Not sure what state you are in, but some states are really strict. For instance, you can only get out of jury duty if you are taking care of a disabled person, you are a disabled person..I wish I could remember the rest. But saying you have to work will not fly. Also, in my state here you can't say "I have a doctor's appointment." That's not an excuse, because you can reschedule. Check your state or county's website on their Jury duty policies. You don't want to get caught in a lie and get in trouble.

the best way to get out of jury duty is to actually serve, this way you are definitely out of it for the next two years. if you try to get out of it now, you will only be delaying it, once your name comes up in the system for jury duty, you will show up to serve or delay it a few times be for you actually serve. Most times you just show up for the jury pool and that is all you do, more then half the time they call people and never use them.

Bring a letter from a psychiatrist, saying you have difficulty concentrating or the medication you're on makes it difficult to concentrate or you get drowsey.

Try drooling, if you can't get a doctors excuse and have a vacant look and stare. Pretend you don't hear them talking to you.

One guy, I know got out of it by saying over and over, that EVERYONE needed to get the death penalty. Even people who run red lights. It worked like a charm.

I don't think there really is a good EXCUSE but when you're asked if you have ever had any similar experiences like the one you will be hearing in the jury box, say yes.

I'm a lazy, ignorant citizen who can't be bothered with doing my civic duty - so just let me go home because I'm too stupid to give an intelligent verdict!
