Night pads are longer so when you're lying down it all gets absorbed.
You can wear tampons at night; it's much easier. It's recommended that they're removed about every 8 hours or so, but an extra hour or two has never hurt me, especially if it's a moderate flow tampon.

if you want to be able to relax and sleep without worrying about waking up to a mess, I'd wear the night pads during the heavy flow days.

You can just wear a normal one if you want it doesn't really matter unless your periods are really heavy.
You just can't wear tampons at night.

The overnight pads are better when sleeping they are extra long and provide better protection from leakage while sleeping .
