The generator takes approximately 170L. I have tried Mini-Tankers, but they would have to travel from Newcastle and would charge thousands of dollars....

Ask at a local service station for the Shell/BP/Mobil/whatever agent. They deliver diesel fuel to boaties and farmers for boats and things like combine harvesters that can't be driven into service stations. Alternately check the yellow pages. There should be a local agent who does it. There will of course be a delivery charge but if your generator is close to the agent's normal rounds the charge should not be eye-watering.

In the meantime perhaps get a couple of jerry cans.

I really don't know anything about your area. But maybe a farmer or contractor that has heavy equipment.
