I think anything by the director Hayao Miyazaki is great. His movies please everybody, from the pokemon crowd to the ghost in the shell folks. They're wholesome but have a little edge and are very entertaining. His latest ones: Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle are eye candy. I'm a 21 year old female and I love all kinds of anime, from the Akira to Sailor Moon.

I cannot say that there was just one, I'll have to list a few:
Cowboy Bebop the movie (Action)
Perfect Blue (Thriller)
Tokyo Godfathers (Comedy/Thriller)
Grave of the Fireflies (Drama)
My Neighbour Totoro (Family)
Barefoot Gen (Drama - war movie)
Spirited Away (Fantasy)
Howl's Moving Castle (Fantasy)
Princess Mononoke (Fantasy)
Kiki's Delivery Service (Family)
Laputa: Castle in the Sky (Fantasy)
Steamboy (Sci-fi/Drama/Action)
...etc.
Although I guess my absolute favourites would have to be Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies and Tokyo Godfathers.
I am 19 and female, BUT none of these are what you'd call 'chick-flicks'. Grave of the Fireflies for example is a Drama, but is based on the struggles of two children in postwar Japan (really heavy stuff...)

Let's see.
I liked Beyond the Clouds, aka The Place Promised In Our Early Days.
I'll have to say that I also liked Howl's Moving Castle, too.
I'm male, 17 years old, and I like all types of genre, no specific ones. So that means I like action, shounen, shoujo, adventure, fantasy, magic, mecha, romance, drama, supernatural, vampires, sci-fi, comedy, ecchi, etc. (I just don't like yuri, yaoi, or shounen-ai, and not so much shoujo-ai)

I quite enjoyed Howl's Moving Castle.
But otherwise (despite living in Japan) I don't watch anime. After all, I'm over 20 already!!
When I was a kid (15 or so) I enjoyed One Piece and Sailor Moon. Gokinjo Monogatari was another favourite.
