I live in a very rural area with no cable or fiber optics availability. And I'm not home enough to warrant the cost of a sattelite dish. I went to Wal-Mart and bought an HD external antenna for about $30. It's small and inconspicuous. I mounted it on the edge of the roof and ran a coax wire into the house to the tv. It comes with a powered transformer to boost the signal. I used to get maybe three stations, four on a good day. Now I get maybe 20! It's hard to get any kind of decent reception without some sort on an external antenna. Worked for me! Good luck.

The best reception I ever got was using a metal twist tie.I stripped the paper off half of it and inserted it into the cable ready plug in the back off the TV...it worked better than the rabbit ears did.

For pretty good reception you will need to spend about $100- go to Menards or lowes, look in Electrical dept. I use one, get 6 channels, all networks and PBS- Some area's you won't get reception- behind Moutains and such- most all come with a Booster that plugs in.

You say it's only for the time being, so have you tried the old aluminum foil trick from years ago? Wrap the foil around the top 12" of the "ears", forming something like a flag on each one. I know it sounds crazy, but that's what we used to have to do. It used to work. Not real well, but better than just a fuzzy screen.

You are probably too far from the station. There is no help for that, a roof antenna may help. The price for one of those is about the same as a months dish service. Certainly it would pay for itself in two months, then no more monthly payments for that.

Radio Shack used to sell fancy roof-mounted TV antennas which greatly improved reception. Getting the antenna outside of the house greatly improves your reception.

hook-up to the dead dish, re-aim it, in the direction of the nearest city, rather then the moon...
I've been on "peasant vision" before, the nearest city for me was 180 miles, I got a " french channel" really good, "public TV" not bad, and two of big 3 sometimes...
