It seems hard to make money selling items on Ebay when the ad is expensive in itself.

I pay a bit more than the 35 cent insertion fee, like the gallery picture and supersized pitcures, but it's usually less than $2.00 to list things. I agree with the person that said you have to know how to list things- put some general terms in the title along with the exact item you're selling, so that people searching for "fine china" will also find your "Rosenthal Ivory Soup Bowl"

Be very honest in your description of the item you want to sell. That is the most important thing. I put my items for sale at a low price and it usually goes up. The high listings usually have a harder time selling. You don't need to do all the fancy stuff in your add, just the basic descriptions. Accept pay pal. It is easy to set up an account and they will put the earnings in your bank account or leave them in the pay pal and deduct them yourself. The shipping, try not to have a set price on the shipping unless you are going to try to make up a little money there. I always put the weight (usually a guess) and then there is a calculator on the site that lets the buyer figure the exact cost of shipping. I find I get more bids when the shipping is like that than when I put a fixed price. I do put NO REFUNDS on my auctions, but I describe them very well... and volunteer to send more pictures of the item to the buyer so he will be sure ... Good luck. My father in law has made a fortune off of ebay.

what are you talking about? It's only $.35 to list an item then there's a precentage taken out that's it! Unles your talking about having your item posted at the top of the searches and on various pages highliting BOLD ect that'll definetly add up and eat into your costs

Hmmm, I've sold quite a few things and my ads didn't cost that much, some were less than $1.

Insertion fee's start at $0.35 and go up according to what the start price is, thats not expensive. You have to know how to sell on eBay to know how to make money on it.
