Some states have holidays. Others don't.

Actually that is a very interesting idea. If it would increase voter participation I think it is a noble idea. Of course a decision would need to be made to decide what elections would be covered under the holiday. Interesting though.

I wish we got a holiday on Election day in Illinois. I think more people would show up at the polls if we did. At least I'd hope so.

Why do you need a holiday? Your employer gives off enough time for you to go vote - you don't need all day to do that. Also, the poles are open from 7:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M., enough for most people to vote without having to miss work at all.

For the love of God, we have "early voting" that starts a month before the election. Then you can vote by absentee ballot. The polls on election day are open from 6am until 9pm. What more can you ask for?

How many holidays do you want? America's problem right now and for the last 40 years is that nobody wants to work for a living. Now everybody complains that the rest of the world is taking ouir work away, but we STILL want to get by with doing as little as possible.

What a great idea! Then people would have no excuse not to vote. Of course, the voting centers would be staffed by state and federal elected officials, since they don't work a full year anyway, and aren't they supposed to be working for us?????

For the 20% that get out to vote? We have enough holidays on the books.

we need at least 5 more holidays per year

life is too hectic in America

as an adult with a family, with both parents working full time (because we have to) its impossible to keep up with all responsibilities
