No tolerance of fighting at schools,
Higher divorce rate,
More school shootings,
No more beatings/hazings in the military
Are these all symptoms of the same problem? Are we more namby pamby now? It's been said that we live in a time where people expect society to cater to them. Or are some people just being alarmist?

I think we are stronger. The occasional violence is newsworthy because it is uncommon. The divorce rate is higher partly because people have realized that it makes sense to end a bad marriage, and partly because people are living longer. As nasty as the current political discourse is, it is not worse than it has been in the past.

The problem with society today is lack of breeding. People marry for wrong reasons and multiply before they are ready to devote themselves to the rearing of a child. Day Care is NOT a good substitute for a mother's love.

Different. The American family is weaker. Yet violence is less often seen as appropriate.

So my guess is that people are slightly more civilized, but individually if they are doing so to be mamby-pampy and get along, sometimes they suddenly snap and inflict violence.

Its different, but kinda weaker becuase everything has to be PC. Parents cant even spank their kids anymore. Back in the 20's did kids fight, yes, did they get spanked, yes, did they kill 5 kids at their school, no.
