I made a time line consisting of 10 year intervals. Like, 1960-1970, 1971-1980, etc., with an emphasis on family (summer vacations, holidays, neighborhoods), school, and job life. Sometimes researching cultural events, what the rest of the world was up to and when, helps. I used mostly old photographs, some school transcripts, old pay stubs, to get the sequence right. You'll be surprised what you remember once you trigger it.

If you have forgotten most of your life the best place to review it would be your parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts, also siblings. Teachers you have had should be able to give you information about yourself, and school records also.
