If all Japanese vehicles are made the same way, it sounds like you have an exhaust heat shield rattling by what you describe. It's not a big deal at all. It's more of a nuisance than anything.

I would see if you have a loose heat shield on your catalytic converter. I used to do exhaust work and the mysterious rattle, usually heard when accelerating from a stop or while idling in gear, is a loose heat shield.
If it's not loose, you may have something like a small rock or some gravel in it. If its loose, either remove it or have it tack welded back together. I usually just remove them because the noise will more than likely come back. In most cases removing them won't hurt anything, but if the shield is close to the catalytic converter and the floor boards are only about 3 inches or less away, repair it. If it was a truck where you have a more than a few inches of clearance, it won't hurt to just remove the culprit permanently.
Sometimes, a quick swat with a (BFH) large hammer (don't hit the Catalytic Converter directly) can "tweak" it enough to stop it from driving you crazy!

i own a repair shop, and i think i know what it is ,,i had one in my shop with this problem before,it probably has a gravel caught in the catalytic converter shield on it,and this will make it rattle like that ,and i have seen the shield be loose and about to fall off before and yes on that new of a car,but id say your has a rock or something in it,and it will five you crazy trying to find it,you can take a screw driver and pry on it a little and the gravel or rock will come out of it,and this should stop your rattling on it,th is is an easy fix ,and wont cost you nothing ,good luck i hope this help,s.

Well a spark knok comes to mind.
It could also be the heat shield on the cat is loose and making that noise.
With out hearing the noise it is hard to say what it is.

I dont know much about newer cars but I have had a noise before in a 98 and it went away when I tried a higher octane fuel. so I would try a higher octane fuel first.

sounds like a rattle. But it could be a ping and you may need to clean the EGR system, this should be done at 80,000 miles or so.

Hi, I know what your problem is.
ITS THE NUT BEHIND THE WHEEL
It always happens after you sniff the glue.
